What to Look Forward to This Week

UK Football Events

Don’t miss a book signing Tuesday at the Central Bank and Joseph-Beth bookstore in Hamburg, by Rich Books on Tom Leach’s new book “Rich Tradition”.   Don’t miss the chance to get a copy of this great book signed by Coach Brooks.

Saturday August 8, UK Football fan day will be taking place starting at 6:30 p.m.  This is a great event to get out and meet some of the players for autographs and to let your children try on some UK football equipment.  Here are the full details of Fan Day.

College Basketball Recruiting

Fab Melo has cut his list down to four schools excluding UK from the list.  Most people believe that Fab will be commiting to UofL sometime within the next week.  Rick Pitino was attendance for most of Melo’s games at the AAU Nationals and the games that he was not present he had an assistant coach in his place.  Pitino has been recruiting Melo before most of the other schools ever got involved so that should give him an edge.  Florida also made the list probably because of “Little Richard” and his recruitment of Fab while he was on the UofL staff.  Syracuse also found itself on the final four list of Melo and the Syracuse staff was on hand for most of the games at the AAU Nationals.  Miami and its staff made appearances at Fab’s games and they are trying to make a late push for his services.  I would be suprised if Melo ends up anywhere other than Louisville.

AAU Nationals Wrap Up

The 2009 AAU Championships are completed and there were many players that helped their argument to be one of the top players in the country.  There were a lot of highlights from the week but I am coming away extremely impressed with several players.
First, Jared Sullinger is a beast down low and he is going to make a huge impact for Ohio State.  He is very very strong and really knows how to finish.
Second, Adreian Payne had the most exciting dunks for the week.  His dunks and athleticism were not the only things that caught my eye.  He has a good shot and showed the ability to knock down 3’s easily.  Payne, who is considering UK, looks to be the typical Calipari player.  He is a very long 6′9″ and he plays very long as well.
Third, Justin Anderson a 2012 recruit out of Maryland, looks to be the next big player.  While most people look at this kid and his size and athletic ability really stand out, I see a kid who has all of the tools to be the next big player.  Anderson will be on everyone’s radar very very soon.  He is a left handed 6′5″ guard/forward, with a good shot and deep range.  He also is probably one of the highest leapers around right now, as he looks like he is jumping on a trampoline.

All in all, UK has its eye on some very talented players for the class of 2010.  Adreian Payne, Kyrie Irving, Brandon Knight, Harrison Barnes, Tobias Harris, Josh Selby, Joe Jackson and some others.  Obviously, we will not and cannot get all of the targets, but we will definitely be loaded with some of the best in the country.
