Defense and rebounds win games. Matthew Mitchell and the ladies in Blue did plenty of both Thursday night, and improved to a program-best 8-0 in SEC play(19-2 overall). A’dia Mathies (20 points, 4 boards, 3 assists, 0 turnovers) bounced back nicely from her poor showing against Florida Sunday, though if anyone deserves an occasional off-night, it’s her. Pinkett & Conwright combined for 18 points off the bench, 15 boards for Samarie Walker, and the most turnovers forced in SEC play under Mitchell(30) equals another W for Big Blue.
“We have a very good basketball team,” said Mitchell, among other things in the postgame, along with, “if we play with confidence, we’ll win…if they expect it out of themselves, it’ll happen for them…clearly Conwright’s best game of the year…” To sum up, a whole lot of positive vibes comin out of the Joe Craft Center, as both men’s and women’s teams are leading the way in the Southeastern Conference.
Sunday’s home game against Alabama is yet ANOTHER sell-out. I hope some of our readers are among those with tickets. If not, get some SOON. Drew will have more on UK Hoops in the morning, here’s a postgame fun fact from Twitter. Go Big Blue.
