Morning Thoughts–Freakin’ Weekend Edition

Top of the morning to you, fellow card-carrying Big Blue Nation members!  Don’t worry, your membership fees aren’t due anytime soon.  As a matter of fact, you’ll never have to pay a dime.  That’s how Kentucky fanhood rolls.  We don’t care how many beer stains your favorite UK shirt has.  We take pride in the number of bars you’ve been asked to leave because you were screaming too loudly during the game.  We could care less how old you are, if you’re man or woman, black or white, or a Yankee or a Southerener.  You won’t have to pass any tests, either.  As long as you cheer until your voice goes hoarse, you hate Louisville, you loathe/despise/ all things Duke, and where your Big Blue colors with pride, you’re in.  It’s as simple as that.  You don’t even have to handle a “beat in”, an iniation process quite common among street gangs like the Bloods, the Crips, and—not so coincidentally—Louisville fans.  If you can’t shoot a 12 point buck, you’re not allowed into Tennessee’s fan club.  If you don’t speak calculus, Vanderbilt’s fans look down on you.  I could go on and on.  Anyway, that’s how awesome Big Blue Nation is.  We’re accepting, and our warm embrace lasts a lifetime.

Rolling, rolling, rolling….get those Morning Thoughts rolling….rolling, rolling, rolling….BIG BLUE!!!!!!!!

Matt’s Cats:  DOMINATION.  That’s what happened.  The Lady Wildcats took Ole Miss to the shed with an 82-41 victory in front of an almost-capacity Memorial Colesium crowd last night.  With Tennessee’s upset last night at home against South Carolina, the path to a regular season championship got a little more clear.  Kentucky now holds a two game lead atop the throne with a manageable schedule closing out the year, including a trip to visit the Volunteers.  Hypothetically, if Kentucky can win the regular season title and account themselves well in the SEC tournament, Coach Matthew Mitchell will have a legitimate bitch for a #1 seed.  At worst, A’dia, Bria, Samarie and friends would be looking squarely at the highest #2 seed.  WE HEAR YOU!

Nerlens, Shabazz, Anthony:  the earthquake of Nerlens Noel’s reclassification to the class of 2012 continues to produce aftershocks across the recruiting world.  Noel is now the top recruit in the nation, a shot-blocking whiz some analysts have compared to Bill Russell.  Yep, I said Bill Russell.  Shabazz Muhammed is arguably #2 and Anthony Bennett is in the top 10.  It’s a ridiculous thought to consider what would happen if all three signed with Kentucky, but it’s not impossible.  John Calipari is the Honey Badger of recruiting.  If he wants a player, he just takes them.  Additionally, he’s going to have more scholarships to hand out than Nino Brown had turkeys in New Jack City.  With the expected exodus of Anthony Davis, MKG, Terrence Jones, Doron Lamb–plus the graduating Darius Miller and Eloy Vargas—to go with Stacey Poole’s vacant scholarship, seven scholarships are available.  Add in current committments Alex Poythress, Archie Goodwin, and Willie Cauley, and the numbers work.  Add in Ryan Harrow and Kyle Wiltjer, and maybe Marquis Teague….good Lord, next year’s squad could be lethal.  I have to take a cold shower now.

Stop it, Drew….FOCUS ON THIS SEASON!  QUIT WORRYING ABOUT NEXT SEASON!  WE’RE #1 IN THE COUNTRY!  HAVE FUN NOW!

Malcom White:  the LSU assault specialist that doubles as a basketball player sent a letter of apology to Anthony Davis and Coach Cal.  Wasn’t that nice of him?  Did his parole officer or LSU head coach Trent Johnson make him do that, or was it on his own accord?  Johnson said White will face additional “in-house” punishment.  Here’s an idea—make him spend the night in that tiger’s den.

South Carolina:  sometime tomorrow morning, a handful of hungover South Carolina students will remember their university plays men’s college basketball.  They’ll remember life goes on after National Signing Day, no matter what Steve Spurrier says.  They’ll pop up their collars, jam out to Hootie and the Blowfish, and load up the pick-up trucks to watch #1 Kentucky trample on their Gamecocks.  Tip-off is tomorrow at 6pm.

Peace out, BBN.  Follow me on Twitter @drewuksportsinf.  It’s the Freakin’ Weekend!
