Good morning Big Blue Nation! Welcome to “The Day After National Signing Day”, Kentucky style. While our SEC brethren are still drinking from their kegs of recruiting glory and sobering up with some early morning Waffle House hash browns (scattered, smothered, and covered), we Kentucky fans have already turned our sights back to all things basketball. Such is the life of a Wildcat football fan. The naysayers—and there are plenty of them—are quick to note General Joker’s recruiting haul is near or at the bottom of the SEC rankings. The “glass half full” crowd is quick to respond that Scout ranks this recruiting class #31 in the country. Kentucky football’s reality falls somewhere in the middle of both views. Kentucky will never outrecruit Florida and Alabama. It’s just not going to happen. Me buying the first season of Glee is more likely to occur, and that ain’t happening, even with a gun to my head. That being said, the staff has done an admirable job finding solid prospects they hope to develop into legitimate SEC players over the next couple of years. Lieutenant Tee is genuinely excited about this group of signees. I’m excited, but I’m not overly enthusiastic. After last year’s offensive debacle and the departure of Danny Trevathan and Winston Guy, next season could be rough. True freshman aren’t the difference makers in college football that college basketball one-and-doner’s are. Can we all agree to support them? Good. We’ve got that going for us, which is nice.
Lots and lots to talk about this morning, so let’s get to it:
Nerlens Noel: guess what happened last night? The top prospect in the 2013 class reclassifed to the 2012 class. What does that mean to Coach Cal and UK? Potentially, a whole, whole lot. According to the experts, Noel is one of the best shot blockers ever. He has already leap frogged over Shabazz Muhammed as the #1 prospect in the class. Noel is simply that good. John Calipari and Coach Antigua have been spending plenty of quality time recruiting both of them. Kentucky and Syracuse are considered the frontrunners for his signature and Noel will start taking his official visits soon. If Muhammed and Noel’s high top fade sign with Kentucky, it will be the fourth straight #1 recruiting class for Kentucky in an absolute landslide. Kentucky would also be the preseason #1 team in the country. If Muhammed or Noel come to Lexington, it will still be another top ranked recruiting class for UK. If neither sign, guess what? Alex Poythress, Archie Goodwin, and Wille Cauley are still coming. We’ll be fine, BBN.
For fun: imagine if Noel commits and Anthony Davis returned for his sophomore year (it’s not happening). Would anyone get a shot off against Kentucky last year? Would teams just forfeit? If I was an opposing coach in this impossible scenario, I’d at least consider it. I wouldn’t want my players having Post Traumatic My-Shot-Got-Blocked-13-Times Syndrome.
Matt’s Cats: Coach Matthew Mitchells’s fifth ranked Lady Wildcats take on the Lady Admiral Akbhar’s Rebels of Ole Miss tonight at 7pm. How about we make it another sell out, Big Blue Nation? Memorial Colesium wants YOU. Ole Miss arrives in Lexington with a not-so-stellar 12-10 record. They’re 2-7 in SEC play. If the Lady Rebs would stop wearing stilleto heels and sundresses during games, they might be better. They have to realize it’s OK to wear their basketball shoes and they’re not tailgating in The Grove. I wonder if their coach wears a bow tie? Tony and I will be there. Come back and see us after UK wins. Deal?
The Super Bowl: would someone please point me in the direction of the Einstein who chose Madonna to play the halftime show? Are you kidding me? I’d like to have a word with him/her. Isn’t Madonna, like, 114 years old now? I bet she’s still plenty mean, too. It’s football. We need rock n’ roll, not a bunch of back-up dancers “voguing” in funny looking dresses. Just my two cents.
Murray State: I just remembered this from my college days—Calloway County, where the #9 Murray State Racers reside, is limited dry. What does that mean? That means they can’t buy legally buy booze. I wonder if cooking wine and Listerine is illegal, too? Anyway, how in the hell are they supposed to celebrate their season? With root bee floats and chocolate milk? Anybody want to hijack a Budweiser truck with me this afternoon? Racers fans have to be thirsty!
Let’s get Thursday rolling. Follow me on Twitter @drewuksportsinf. Be good or be good at it.

Great post! I got a chance to watch Noel play in Florida and guess who else was there to watch? Cal, Antigua and Kenny. UK was really bringing the big guns out. It is obvious how bad Cal and company want Nerlens as well as Shabazz. Noel put on a clinic, blocking shots and rebounding. I have a great video of Noel playing with a little kid during the three point competition and he seemed like an awesome kid. Can’t wait!

Thanks buddy. Nerlens Noel–BIG BLUE NATION WANTS YOU! I might grow a high-top fade/box myself if it helps get him to Lexington. It will be the next hairdo craze in the Commonwealth.
