UK Sports Info
In case you somehow missed it, there was a movement started a couple weeks ago by the UK Alumni Association in Nashville that picked up steam this week call Occupy Memorial. Vandy had Gameday there this morning and the idea was for UK fans to show up in droves to overtake Memorial and they sure did. Vandy had caught wind of it earlier this week and said all UK fans would have to sit in the upper deck. Some Vandy fans made some obscene and offensive UK shirts early in the week that caused a response from the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation Group (GLADD). Then every UK fan’s favorite, Digger Phelps got on the microphone before the game and tried to scold UK fans and tell them not to cheer because it was Vandy’s day. That worked well.
When Gameday came on this morning the chants were overwhelming. You could start to hear a Vandy chant, only to be drowned out by “GO BIG BLUE!”. Without UK fans there it would have been a horrible Gameday because the Vandy section was AWFUL. They were quiet and eventually stopped cheering except when trying to muster a pitiful effort to drown out UK. It looked like the Gameday announcers might not even acknowledge the UK presence, but Rece Davis had to eventually. He kept looking up at the rafters when there would be a reaction from UK fans to something on the screen. The UK reaction was more powerful to almost every clip and stat from Gameday than Vandy’s, and it was VANDY’S Gameday! It showed Big Blue Nation travels like no other fanbase in the country. Our fans are everywhere, and if we want to invade your arena, we will do it no matter how you try to stop us.
Now, was it wrong? You could argue both sides, but how can it really be that bad? It is not as if UK fans showed up to Vandy’s version of Midnight Madness and invaded that. Those events are all about that one particular team. UK’s Big Blue Madness is about UK, not UK and their opponent as when Gameday travels to Rupp. Gameday today was not about just Vandy, no matter what Digger wants to tell you. It was about the match up between UK and Vandy. UK fans have just as much of a right to travel there if they want to. Vandy fans could try to Occupy Rupp if Gameday had been there, but the fact is they can’t. They don’t have nearly the amount of fans or determination that BBN has and probably couldn’t get 100 fans there with their best effort. They’re welcome to try, UK fans won’t whine about it. We would just drown them out in our arena and defend our arena. That’s something Vandy fans aren’t even capable of doing at Memorial. It isn’t our fault they probably would rather be doing homework instead of getting hyped up for a huge basketball game. We aren’t going to apologize for being a passionate and far reaching fanbase. Last time I checked, that wasn’t a bad thing.

Get your fact straight. The UK Alumni Assoc did not start this movement. They actually disavowed it. Writing about this just goes to boost Matt jones ego. Note that no other Kentucky sites other than ksr wannabes even reported on this. Get off Matt Jones sack
Drew
Stephen made a mistake. Move on from it. Give the kid a break. Trust me when I tell you this—there’s not SINGLE PERSON ASSOCIATED WITH THIS SITE “on Matt Jones sack”. If you don’t believe that, fine. We love comments and visitors, but this type of crap won’t be missed. To my knowledge, #occupymemorial wasn’t started by KSR either. Also, every Lexington TV station, the Lexington Herald-Leader, and ESPN all reported on the #occupymemorial. Get YOUR facts straight before you go popping off. Go Big Blue.
Todd
John, I did not see anything from the alumni assoc disavowing the movement. To my knowledge, it was the Nashville chapter that started this.
