LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team wrapped up the LSU Golf Classic on Sunday afternoon with a seventh-place finish. The Wildcats shot a 24-over-par 312 on their final day in Baton Rouge, La., leaving the Wildcats at 62-over-par (926) on the weekend.
Tennessee claimed first in the LSU Golf Classic after a five-over-par 293 in the final round. With a 16-over-par 880 on the weekend, Tennessee beat out second-place LSU by two strokes. North Carolina finished in third at 25-over-par (889) with Vanderbilt and North Carolina State rounding out the top-five.
With a team-best 4-over-par 76 in the final round, junior Betsie Johnson earned her second best finish of the year with a tie for 14th at 9-over-par (225). Johnson stayed steady and was able to shoot a team-high 34 pars on the weekend.
Junior Ashleigh Albrecht continued her consistent play with a 5-over-par 77 in the final round. Albrecht’s two birdies on Sunday helped her finish in a tie for 31st at 15-over-par. Albrecht led the team in birdies on the weekend with eight through three rounds.
Sophomore Liz Breed also finished tied for 31st at 15-over-par 231. Breed sunk one birdie on the final day to shoot an 8-over-par 80.
One of just five girls to nail an eagle on the weekend, junior Megan Moir continued her improvement with a 7-over-par 79 in the final round. Moir finished in a tie for 72nd at 34-over-par.
As an individual, junior Heather Lott shot 33 pars on the weekend, finishing at 26-over-par 242. Lott’s 9-over-par 81 final round left her in 60th place. Senior Ashlee Rose finished her final round with a 9-over-par 83. Rose’s 33-over-par 249 left her in a tie for 70th on the weekend.
Kentucky will be back in action next weekend at the Lady Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. on March 16-18.
