Rise and shine, Big Blue Nation campers. Don’t act like you haven’t already taken off a week off of work in October to pitch a tent outside Memorial Colesium for Midnight Madness tickets. How’s the basketball offseason treating you so far? Are you still basking in the glory that only national champions can enjoy? Do you have an empty feeling inside, wondering how you’ll cope with Anthony Davis withdrawal symptoms and no more Terrence Jones poses? Or are you nervous about recruiting and John Calipari’s future at Kentucky?
Yesterday, BBN saw an outbreak of a new term: “industry sources”. Maybe it evolved from the famous phrase “inside sources”. Maybe it grew out of the infamous term “sources” that every person on the planet claims to have. Twitter was fluttering with “industry sources” on just about every story regarding who the next Wildcats will be and whether Coach Cal will be in the NBA. Let’s play a game, shall we?
Morning Thoughts…let’s play the “Industry Sources: True, False, or Who the Hell Knows?” game…let’s roll…
What was reported: Jerry Meyer quoted “industry sources” that Muhammed was going to commit to UCLA.
Verdict: Who the hell knows? The McDonald’s All-American game MVP has been more vocal about loving Kentucky than any other school. My gut say is his family–particularly his father–would prefer his son stay on the west coast and play for the Bruins. Shabazz wants to be in Lexington. BBN will take good care of him, Mr. Muhammed. We promise. But we can’t guarantee we’d enforce a curfew. Kentucky basketball players are quite popular with the ladies, I hear.
What was reported: National recruiting analyst Evan Daniels cited three “industry sources” that Noel was leaning towards Georgetown.
Verdict: Who the hell knows? This was the first report I’ve read about Noel going anywhere besides Kentucky or Syracuse. Daniels later clarified his statement, saying Georgetown is a “real player” for Noel’s signature and not an afterthought. Why not? Georgetown sucks and they’re way too preppy. The Hoyas won’t accept your high top fade the way Big Blue Nation will. Hell, it would become the next fashion craze in Kentucky if you sign with the Wildcats. We’re an accepting bunch like that.
What was reported: a bazillion media outlets reported that “industry sources” confirmed the wheels were already in motion for John Calipari to be the next New York Knicks coach.
Verdict: False. John Calipari isn’t planning on going anywhere. This came straight from Coach Cal himself, not my best friend sister’s cousin’s girlfriend’s mailman (also known as “industry sources”). Coach Cal plans to overtake UCLA for the most national titles by a program. He’s had meetings with NBA Player’s Union boss Billy Hunter about modifying the “one and done” rule. He wants an undefeated season. He wants his third straight #1 recruiting class. Does this sound like a guy packing his bags for the Big Apple?
What was reported: assistant coach Kenny Payne has been in touch with the McDonald’s All-American, gauging each other’s interest in Kentucky. Payne also mentioned there’s a strong possibility Davis, MKG, Three Goggles, Jones, and Teague would enter the draft.
Verdict: True. This makes too much sense to be wrong, especially if Shabazz becomes Ben Howland’s next UCLA
underachiever Bruin. Isn’t it nice that a high school All-American is actually a back-up plan for Kentucky? Suck on that, haters.
Tonight on the Jimmy Kimmel Show
What was reported: Anthony Davis and John Calipari will be Sarah Silverman’s ex-boyfriend’s guest tonight. Set your DVR.
Verdict: True. And I’ve always had this odd crush on Sarah Silverman. Is that wrong?
A Trip to The White House
What was reported: The 2012 national champions will visit the capital of our great country sometime in May.
Verdict: True. I hope Anthony Davis swats President Obama’s teleprompter for picking North Carolina to win it all. Don’t be expecting the state of Kentucky to vote for you again anytime soon. Big Blue Nation is a powerful lobby. We don’t forget.
Kentucky Businesses are BOOMING
What was reported: UK apparel stores are making dolla-dolla-bills for selling 1,489 different versions of national champions t-shirts.
Verdict: True. And I’m kicking myself in the ass for not being part of this booming industry. Never let it be said the life of a blogger is a path to being a millionaire. It’s more like a path straight to the welfare line.
What was reported: it’s only 189 days away.
Verdict: TRUE. TRUE. TRUE. TRUE. TRUE. TRUE. TRUE.
Time to do the work thing. As always, thanks for stopping by. Tell a friend. I’ll be here every day until carpal tunnel syndrome puts me on the disabled list. Follw me on Twitter @drewuksportsinf. Stay classy, BBN.
