FOR Cal, not FROM CAL. Cause ya know, we don’t get to wear em…The Big Blue Nation is a spoiled bunch, now more than ever. It’s getting to the point where we expect to get no less than three 5-star McDonald’s All-Americans every recruiting year, and as the 2012 Cats proved possible, take those young stars all the way to the National Championship. Winning it all is hard to do, but with the momentum Coach Cal has built, how many times do you think he’ll cut down the nets here at Kentucky?
It’s difficult to predict, as we have no idea how long he’ll stay here. If Calipari were to coach at UK for say, 20 years, I’d guess that he could match Adolph Rupp’s total of 4 titles. Pretty sure nobody expects him to be here that long, so let’s say he’s the HNIC for 7 more seasons, 10 total. My guess would be one more, as again, winning 6 in a row in the Dance is quite difficult. So many things have to fall in place, it ain’t easy. Two National Titles in ten years, along with a couple other Final 4′s, several SEC regular season and tourney championships, countless superstar players and memories…
What say you? Would one more ring be enough in the next 7 years? Would he need at least one other Final 4 banner to meet your current expectations? We are in the 3rd “Golden Era” ofKentucky Basketball, imo. From 48-58, Rupp won FOUR titles, an Olympic Gold Medal, and ruled the SEC. From 92-99, Pitino(with a lil help from Tubby) finished no worse than the Elite 8 every year but one(94), made four Final 4′s with two NC’s. Great times for BBN, the Calipari Era looks to be right up there with them…as long as he sticks around for a while.

I was hoping that some other folks would have weighed in this afternoon while I was working. My hope is that UK is able to pass UCLA as Cal has stated is his desire. If we had somehow pulled off a National Championship last year, I would definitely say it’s possible. Cal is only 53, and easily could coach 7-9 more years, if not longer. If he coaches 12 total years, and he continues to win once every 3 years, that would make 4 total, and tie UCLA. I think you are right about anything can happen in the tourney, but Cal and staff are so good at prep and game coaching, that it works. I mean 13-2(if my math is right) in the last 3 tourneys. Wow!! So, After all that rambling I am going to say that Cal wins 4 more, 5 total, to pass UCLA before retiring as “The Man!”.
