What’s up with Rod? Everyone seemed to believe he would be joining Larry Brown at SMU, getting an actual assistant’s position. Then all of a sudden, he’s staying here. What gives? Did Brown not have room for him? Does Cal really, really need him on the bench? Maybe Coach Strick just likes it here, who knows.

I’ve said for years that not everyone is destined to be a head coach. Look at guys like Reggie Hanson, who seems more than content as a #2 guy. Or Walter McCarty, who decided to quit coaching to focus on music and his family. If Rod DOES want to be the man someday, however, he needs to ditch his current special-assistant-to-the-VP-of-bball-video-operations-alpha-squad gig and climb the darn ladder already, imo.

Could the multiple dui’s be a factor? Didn’t stop Billy Clyde from finding work. One would think that Rod Strickland’s name alone would make him attractive to a coach looking for some street cred on the recruiting scene. Perhaps he is waiting on Antigua or Payne to leave the nest so he can slide down a lil closer to Cal.

What say you? Does Strick have the makings of a future D-1 HC? How soon does he need to make a move? Need to make one at all?
