Kentucky refused to let it all end tonight, as they defeated Creighton 65 – 63, and extended their season to at least the 3rd Round of the NIT. The Blue Jays came out fighting and deserve credit for a great game of basketball against a determined Kentucky team in front of a sold out crowd. They put it all out on the court and I have the utmost respect for their fantastic effort.
It was a close game all night, but with 17 seconds remaining, Kentucky came out of a timeout and got the ball to Jodie, who struggled most of the night with just two three point attempts and 4-9 shooting all night. He was able to convert a three-point play with 10.6 seconds remaining to pull ahead of the Blue Jays by two.
For the Blue Jays, it was an opportunity to bring in an SEC team for the first time in 69 years. The excitement was deafening from the beginning. When Patterson received his second foul 5 minutes into the first half, the Blue Jays’ chances looked good. With only 3 points from Meeks in the first half, their chances looked even better.
However, the Cats had a different opinion and they were able to pull out the victory in the end.
Overall, this was a great win, perhaps one of the better ones all season in a hostile environment. The Wildcats seemed determined to win, and represented the program well tonight. We look forward to a very interesting match up on Wednesday night between Patterson and Harangody!
